‘It's all kicking off in Kimberley' sounds like a mildly amusing piss-take about the sleepiness of our Northern neighbours. Surely, compared to the bustle of Beeston, the other end of Broxtowe snoozes in pastoral peace? Well, no. Right now it's a hotbed of political fighting, with some very odd stuff cracking off. Soubz has alluded […] [...]

Kimberley Residents Meeting – people power!

Hello again,

More than 60 people attended a meeting of Kimberley Residents Association this evening amidst growing concerns about the running of the Town Council. 9 out of 15 original Councillors have resigned amongst them Independents, a Conservative and two Green Party members – most of whom attended the meeting. No-one is suggesting corruption but there is concern that the Council's reserves have all but been spent and Councillors are consistently [...]

Helen Stewart – Group Leader, Art History writes:

Beeston U3A's Art History Group is reaching a significant milestone; we are about to sign up our 100th member and no, there will not be flowers and free membership for the year! August 2013 we began a second group because we did not wish to risk the health and safety of our members as our room would only take sixty people at any one time. That still means [...]

Many of you will now be aware that, sadly, we are losing our Chair Liz Barnes. Liz has made the momentous decision to move to Cheshire to be nearer to her family and play a bigger part in the life of her new grandson, Samuel. I know that Liz has not made this decision lightly as she has many friends in Beeston but I am confident that she will settle in to Cheshire and [...]

An eventful week at Attenborough Nature Reserve! A call came in to the Centre regarding a swan at the Long Eaton pits which had swallowed a fishing hook and line. Reserve staff, going above and beyond the call of duty, went to see if anything could be done to help it. The swan was caught and taken to the vets where after an x-ray and a gentle tug to remove the line, the swan was [...]
